We received this forward from Ellen this afternoon.
I just got off the telephone with Nate a few minutes ago. He said they (Robert, Nate and Geoff) were about 70-80 Kilometers from Wenchuan when they ran into mudslides and road blockage. They walked about 15 Kilometers and then turned around realizing they would need more provisions to keep going.
Right now they are on their way back to Chengdu to get supplies and bicycles. They plan on returning to the place they had to turn around, - either tomorrow or the next day. They will plan to park their truck and ride/bike their way into Wenchuan. He said that helicopters are flying in and out now. They were able to talk with one guy that was from close to Wenchuan but he had no current info for them. The guy they talk to was also bruised from falling debris off the mountains.
As of right now I am turning over updates and contact info responsibilities to Bev at the Center. I am leaving on a trip and will have limited email capabilities. She will be the contact for all the GTO staff and I will still be helping when I can.
Again, we have not had confirmation from anyone on anything in Wenchuan as of may 14th at 3:43 PM Thailand Time.
